the vicious cycly;80 20 rule to health and fitness;Getting healthy is like getting fit, there is a basic 80 20 Rule you can apply to the healing process of most health complaints. The majority of health issues center around fatigue, weight gain, cravings, depression, indigestion, mood swings, as well as, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, allergies, and hormonal imbalances.


The root of most health problems can usually be fixed by addressing these 4 basic issues first!


  • Metabolism Shift
  • Digestive, Elimination Problems
  • Stress and Adrenal Over-load
  • Acid/Alkaline Balance

Metabolism Shift – If you keep skipping meals or eating too many of the wrong foods (refined, processed carbs), you are going to throw-off your metabolism. Instead of burning fats for energy and weight loss – you will burn carbohydrates and lean muscle! That’s not a good thing, because when your metabolism shifts and starts burning the wrong fuel, it sets you up for weight gain, fatigue, cravings, mood swings, hormonal imbalances, etc.


The reason weight gain and fatigue go hand-in-hand is that you produce two-and-a-half times more energy when you burn fat, instead of carbs and lean muscle. The simple fact that these people are burning the wrong fuel is the primary reason for weight gain and fatigue.


Protein and fats are what keeps your blood sugar stable which keeps your metabolism working in your favor. Bagels, muffins, pasta, breads, etc…Don’t! Fats aren’t the problem, as mainstream medicine has painted them. It’s all those refined, processed carbs that are ruining our health. Test your metabolism and see if it has shifted and is at the root of your health problems.


Digestive Elimination Issues It’s not what you eat, it’s what your body absorbs and eliminates that counts! With that in mind, and knowing that so many people struggle with digestive problems such as bloating, gas, indigestion, heartburn, reflux, etc, is it any wonder why we have so many health problems?


How do you expect to nourish and strengthen your body if every time you eat you irritate and inflame your digestive system? Antacids and acid blocking medications don’t solve the problem, they ONLY address the symptom!


Just because you ate it doesn’t mean your body absorbed those nutrients. An obvious signal that you have some digestive problems are all the digestive problems you get after a meal. Whether you are eating too fast....drinking too much liquids,...eating on the run....eating too much dead food....etc

Or have irritated your tummy enough that know you don't produce enough hydrochloric acid or digestive enzymes to help break down your needs to be addressed. The same goes for your elimination system. Do you have a bowel movement at least every day? Test Your Digestion and see if it is at the root of your problems and is hindering your recovery!


Stress and Adrenal Overload Stress has long been considered one of the ‘usual’ suspects, but is easily overlook when designing a health and wellness program. Stress is basically anything that causes your adrenal glands to produce more of your stress hormones, cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones alert your body that it is in the ‘fight or flight’ mode. It is a basic survival mechanism, but if you are in that fight of flight mode too long – that is when the problems begin.


The body is designed to deal with stress, but mostly short bouts of stress. See the tiger – run from the tiger, than rest! The problem is that for a lot of people they are constantly running from the proverbial ‘paper’ tiger from the moment they wake up until the time they go to sleep.fight or flight mode;adrenal stress;80/20 rule to health and fitness;


Cortisol and adrenaline aren’t bad hormones. They simply do what they are supposed to do which is make your heart beat faster, constrict your arteries, burn carbohydrates for quicker energy, etc. But it also shuts down or inhibits a few things like your digestive, reproductive and immune system. It basically tells those systems to take a back seat....we have more important issues to deal with.


The point is our adrenal glands can easily become depleted,. Stress depletes the body of specific nutrients, so how do you expect your body to run like a champion if you don’t restore those depleted adrenal glands. Take the Stress Test and see if your adrenal glands are exhausted.


Acid – Alkaline balance is another huge contributing factor to so many ailments. Your body, at the tissue (cellular) level, prefers to be a little alkaline. Unfortunately a diet loaded with caffeine, soft drinks, processed, fast foods, grains, proteins (especially protein powders) and junk food makes you very acidic. Grab some Ph paper from your local health food store or drug store and check your saliva and urine ph levels. You should be around a ph level of 7.


Fruits and vegetables are what make you alkaline! Do you put enough of these in your daily diet? I don’t know if the reason people who eat 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables a day are healthier because of all the alkalinity they are consuming or the fact that all that food is loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and Fiber? But facts are facts and if you can’t get yourself to eat more fruits and veggies, try a Green Drinks, it’s the simplest way to get your daily serving of fruits and vegetables.


I think these simple steps will address more than 80% of the ailments out there. So give it a chance, remember if you don't do something different how can you expect anything to Change! And don't get caught up trying to clear up specific ailments, like allergies, headaches, thyroid, hormones, prostate, etc....until you address the basics and the foundation for your overall health can be built on. Otherwise you'll simply stay caught up in that vicious cycle and never get to the level of health you are looking for.
