"Restore Function -- Restore Health"

Getting healthy or staying healthy is more than swallowing a handful of pills or vitamins.

There are No Magic Pills or Potions that are going to cure all your ill and ailments.

Restoring your health is like restoring a building – you need to first look at the foundation.  If the foundation is off….everything else will be off as well.

How is Your Metabolism functioning?

  • Is Stress and Diet throwing off your metabolism causing fatigue, weight gain, cravings, mood swings and other imbalances?

 How is Your Digestive system functioning?

  • Do you struggle with bloating, gas, indigestion and other irritable bowel problems, which could be at the root of your health problem?

 How is your elimination system functioning?

  • Do you struggle with constipation, diarrhea, headaches, ance or other problems related to how well your liver or large intestine are functioning?

The human body is very much like a chain!  A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and your body is linked together by various systems and organs – and you are only as healthy as your weakest functioning system.

This is is why it is important to address these basic underlying systems, and why it is important to restore function first…otherwise you could be wasting a lot of Time, Energy and Money on things that don't help you!

As you will see the questions asked from the “online health quizzes” are not typically asked by mainstream medicine...and if they are...the question than becomes what does traditional medicine typically recommend?  Are they going to prescribe a drug to treat the symptom or is the doctor going to address what could be causing the problem? 

  • Taking a pill to kill or deaden the headache pain...doesn't address what caused the headache, does it?
  • A pill to lessen the stomach pain, or lower your cholesterol or blood pressure....is it addressing the cause of the problem or does it only address the symptom?
  • Does the pill to lower the joint pain fix the joint or deaden your ability for your body to feel pain?

Once you know where the problem is coming from – you can effectively address the problem.  Unfortunately most people don't realize that their symptoms are part of a domino effect... of their metabolism, digestive or elimination system...Not functioing properly.

Too often people are taking specific vitamin or herbal formulas (arthritis, diabetes, hot flashes, PMS, prostate, high blood pressure, etc…) without taking into consideration or looking to see if their basic, fundamentals systems are functioning properly.  If you address those areas first you may be amazed as to how simple it is to overcome your health complaints.

The first step in the ARS Healthy Steps program that I speak about in “To Burn or Not to Burn – Fat is the Question” is to Identify and Address the cause of the problem.  Once you know where the root of your problem is coming from…you can address it!

Too many people are caught in this vicious cycle.  They can't break the cycle because they didn't realize how they are all connected.

  • The constant fatigue is commonly seen by people whose metabolism have them burning carbs and proteins instead of fats.  Not only does ths cause fatigue but it leads to weight gain that is hard to get off.  Because they are burning the wrong fuel...this leads to cravings, PMS, mood swings...this than can lead to digestive problems that only hinder your ability to nourish the body.
  • Let's not forget the fact that stress will begin to erode your intestinal lining which further exacerbates your digestive issues and leaves you vulnerable to 'hidden' food allergies, yeast and parasitic over-growth.  The fact that all the irritation in your gut triggers an additional need for more cortisol...this then overworks and can begin to deplete your adrenal glands...which will further comprimise how your thyroid, liver and immune system function. 
  • The need for all the extra cortisol will cause your body to 'steal' progenolone and progesterone in order to make cortisol.  A portion of your progesterone will be needed to make cortisol...which throws off the balance of estrogen to progesterone and to testosterone...which is why supplementing with progesterone is helpful (stay away from the progesterone creams), but lack of progesterone has a huge effect on PMS, hot flashes, night sweats, infertility and heart health.
     
  • All that extra cortisol and adrenaline will cause your heart to beat faster, blood pressure to increase...now add some coffee or another stimulant (energy drinks) to the mix will only cause a greater contraction of your arteries and cause your heart to beat even faster.

Can you see how the cycle can go in so many different ways...my job and that of the ARS Healthy Steps Program is to help you break that cycle so you can start feeling like your self again.

The second step is to Restoring Normal Function.

As you restore normal function you begin to break that cycle.  You address the digestive problems - if there is one…the elimination and metabolism problem - if there is one.  Most importantly address those stress hormones that can be out of balance and throwing off the other hormones that regulate your cycle (estrogen, progesterone), your strength and stamina (testosterone and DHEA), your blood sugar, your heart, your mood and immune system.

Why you need to look at the adrenal glands? 

Simply put, the adrenal glands produce many hormones that are responsible for regulating your metabolism, blood sugar, sex hormones, digestion, heart rate, mood and immune system. 

The adrenal glands are mostly known for producing our stress hormones; cortisol, adrenaline and norepinephrine. 

The reason they are so involved with metabolism and weight gain is simple…

When your body (adrenal glands) is producing additional cortisol and adrenaline…it triggers your metabolism to burn carbohydrates and proteins (lean muscle) for energy, instead of stored body fats.  This causes us to gain weight and struggle with fatigue…mainly because it has thrown our metabolism off.  It triggers your metabolism to burn the wrong fuel.  Instead of burning fats for energy, which gives you two and a half times more energy…your body will consistently burn carbs and proteins.  I discuss in depth how this works in “To Burn or Not to Burn – Fat is the Question.”

What about Exercise, Sleep and Fun  in the Sun?

Exercise is great and should be done, but for some people it is a double edge sword. Exercise is a stress to the body and can be a great mental de-stressor, but the higher the intensity the more stress producing it becomes.  This could be another tax on your already exhausted adrenal glands and working against your recovery. 

Are you over-training?  Are you doing too much aerobic training and not enough strength training, or the other way around?  The Biggest Exercise Mistake I see is people doing their aerobic workout at TOO HIGH AN INTENSITY for their level of conditioning that they trigger "Anaerobic Metabolism."  This slows their recovery, as well as, slow their fitness progress, because it causes an increased production of cortisol and adrenaline...which after some time will inhibit the release of your growth hormo
