Hi Dr. Len, My name is Michael and I am going to try to get to the point. I have been suffering for about 4 years with an unknown ailment. I finaly found out that both my adrenal heath an liver health are not optimal. My cortisol levels were measured and were pretty much flatlined. My phase 1 and 2 of my liver are also slow. Every doctor I ask says that I have to replenish the adrenals before I can help the liver. The problem is that when I take supplements and my body can't metabolize them properly, I get really bad brain fog as well as other symptoms. If I can't get the nutrients, then I can't help the adrenals. On the other hand, I can't help the liver get better, because any detox or nutrients that I have tries only makes me feel worse. Have you heard this situation before and do you have any advice? ANYTHING will be helpful.

Thank You, Michael

Michael,

you are caught in a cycle. First of all, you can't do a detox (for improved liver function) until you get your immune system stronger (which is triggered by your adrenal glands). But the fact that your adrenals are exhausted, tells me your neurotransmitters, your brain messengers (serotonin and GABA) are probably also depleted and that is why you get the brain fog when you start supporting your adrenal glands.

I am not sure what type of adrenal support you are using, because not all adrenal support products are the same, but more importantly is the fact that I would also add the Neuro Calm to help support those depleted neurotrasmitters that have been knocked down due to stress. This is also the reason why we recommend our AM-PM Stress Recovery System for so many people. Once you get your adrenals working better, and they are stronger and have balanced out those brain messengers and hormones...than I would address the liver detox.

Don't forget you get add a good detox protocol to your daily nutrient base. I am a big fan of the Green Super foods that help support liver function....so don't think that you have to absolutely wait.

Hope that helps, if you need some individualized help, let us know and we can set up an appt to get you started on the right track.

Dr. Len,
I have one more question if you don't mind. I do not get dehydrated unless I take any adrenal complex formulas. It seems to me that my alosterone levels are fine and I just have low cortisol. Hence, whenever i take an adrenal stimulant, it stimulates the whole galnd and throws off my aldosterone which leaves me with extreme dehydration. Which does not go away and causes prolems. I usually feel great for 3 days or so and then the dehydration sets in. Does this sound right? and is there a complex that can boost just the cortisol part?

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

I don't know what you are taking, but there is not a specific supplement that only supports cortisol. Most like our Adrenal Fuel support the whole adrenal gland in order for it to function properly. The dehydration could be associated with all the sodium that your body is losing because of the adrenal over-stimulation, which is why a low salt diet is absolutely one of the worst things you can do when your adrenals are down.

Hope that helps,

Dr. Len

I am sorry but I have one more question and then I believe I will be contacting you for additional help. Why is it that my saliva cortisol levels are so low, but my blood cortisol is normal?

Thanks

Mike,

Here are a couple of possible reasons. a saliva test measures, or a good saliva/cortisol test should take four different readings throughout the day, because cortisol levels fluctate throughout the day. Secondly or more than likely the blood test run on your cortisol is typically done once a day.....at a random time of day. that may or may not apply to your testing.

But that is one thing to look at another thing is that blood test only look for the hormone levels in your blood...it doesn't take into consideration that these hormones are also in your tissue and other fluids...NOT solely in blood....so that may explain why the results are not the same. But rest assured that the saliva test is the most accurate way of testing hormones. Also NASA uses the same test.

Mike19,

Just a thought regarding your first question on this subject (.e. the catch 22 situation)...i had the same problem and was put on Biotic's Nutriclear for several months which eventually solved that problem...read about it on the web...a great product for supporting the liver...

Hello,
I am new, I have been dealing with Adrenal Fatigue and depressed Salivary SiGA for the past couple of years. In the past six month's I have also developed Burning mouth syndrome and geographic tongue, I believe due to a small trial period of bioidentical hormones t help with the adrenal fatigue (bad reaction). The more I read about the liver and how it detox's and help's to balance our hormones, I can't help but to think that possibly my liver is not functioning properly, helping to create some of my problems throughout my body (digestive) and in my mouth...I have tested and tested and tried just about everything and doc's do not know much about GT or BMS just need to live with it...do you think I should give more attention to the liver and see what happens..

Thank you,
Annie

Annie,

There are definitely some toxicity questions that need to be identified, now whether or not you need to address the Adrenal Fatigue first or before the liver is another question that simply can't be answered without a lot more information. The fact that you had a negative reaction to all the additional hormones added to your body, could be a result of a stagnent liver, large intestine, lymph, lack of water, lack of fiber, lack of exercise, etc....The one thing I can say is that whatever you are doing and whatever advice you are getting is not working, which is why I always say...it could be time to switch your tactics.

Hope that helps,

Dr. Len
