I am allergic to iodine and I am on synthroid for Hoshimotos. small doses of iodine seem manageable as far as an allergic reaction but i was told it will interfere wilth the absorption of my synthroid. Should I be staying away from any iodine...

thanks doc

MM,

The fact that you doctor has you on a "synthetic" thyroid medication that only makes T-4, the inactive thyroid hormone, suggests to me...or makes me wonder why he doesn't want to put you on a natural version....one that produces both T-3 and T-4.

T-3 the active thyroid hormone is what your body is probably lacking.....he wants to give you a synthetic version of T-4 and hope that it changes into T-3.....why doesn't he just give you something like Armour or Westroid....two natural thyroid hormones that give your body both T-3 and t-4.

As far as the iodine...your body needs that to make the conversion of the inactive to active hormone. I know i have given many of my women and men large doses of iodine and have found great relief and healing....so make doubly sure you are allergic before you stop or cut back your use of iodine. I am a bit suspect on that, but it's possible.
