Hi. I couldn't find a search window to see if you've talked about bioidentical hormones before, so I'm sorry if this is repetitive. What's your take on trying to go the bioidentical hormone route? At age 51-1/2, I still haven't completed menopause and I have many of the symptoms talked about on the Dr. Phil show that Robin McGraw assures us can be treated with bioidentical hormones. Are they safe? How many years can one safely be on them? Are they a permanant solution or would one still have to come off them at some point and go through the menopause stuff at that point? Thanks so much.
First off....I would never listen or ask a poor man how to make money....I wouldn't ask an overweight person who to lose weight....i wouldn't ask my plumber to do my taxes.....so why in the would would I listen to a doctor or his wife who has never successfully treated patients with natural supplementation, including bio-identical hormones.
Whether they are bio identical or the common synthetic hormones, most commonly given, they are missing the big picture, which are the adrenal glands that are responsible for making your estrogen, protesterone, testosterone and DHEA, after menopause....so wouldn't it be smarter to address the root cause, that being the adrenals, instead of addressing the secondary problem which is a lack of estrogen or progesterone. wouldn't it be smarter to naturally support your adrenal glands so they can make your hormones in the correct balance?
Bio identical hormones are better than the synthetic, but again they are still a crutch, a band aid, that is not addressing the root problem. If you click on the Blog or ARticles sections, even the "Stress Adrenal Fatigue link...it will give you more direction.
Most importantly, get your information from people in the 'know'
If I understand you right, you are saying that our "menopause" symptoms (hot flashes, night sweats, etc) can be elminated by supporting our Adrenal glands with your Adrenal Fuel. That would be awesome! What role, if any, would an anti-oxidant such as SOD (Superoxide Dimutase) play in supporting the adrenals?
Thanks so much. I will be buying more of your Adrenal Fuel!
YOu will never balance out your estrogen, progesterone, testosterone if your adrdenal glands are exhausted from making too much cortisol and adrenaline. Unfortunately mainstream medicine doesn't consider the biological pathways the body goes through when it makes these powerful little hormones. So make sure your adrenal glands are functioing properly before you start adding or experimenting with hormone replacement....Yes Adrenal Fuel has helped so many women rebalance those hormones and overcome their hot flashes, night sweats, etc....
Regarding SOD...and supporting adrenal function. They are not the major player. They are a great antioxidant, but they don't directly support the adrenal glands. It is like a running back on a football team. they all have their role, to assume that they can all play the same position, even though they are a great running back isn't true, so the fact that SOD is a great antioxidant, doesn't mean it is great for the adrenals.
Thank you, Dr. Len! It makes perfect sense! You had responded to another message I posted under the topic of Target Heart Rate. Just want you to know that I pulled out your book again tonight and read a great portion of it. You know the old saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Well in this case, the teacher appeared about 9 months ago, but the "student" wasn't ready! It all makes perfect sense to me now and I feel like I finally have a breakthrough that I have been seeking now for a long, long time. This is going to be lifechanging, Dr. Len! It's like all of the puzzle pieces have come together. You advised me to work out at 65% (110 bpm) today which I did. It was a challenge since I think my heart rate was already at 102 when I stepped on the eliptical. I kept it right at 110 the best I could and instead of going 45 minutes, I felt so good I continued on to 60 minutes. From there I worked the circuit room and kept it at 65% there as well. And, yes, I could have done the whole routine all over again when I was done! :O) I didn't feel "spent" and I actually enjoyed it. I am excited to see the fat begin to disappear. It's a great feeling to have hope again. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and for making a difference in my life. I will keep you up to date with my progress as I become fit and healthy. Oh... as a side note, I just started a new eating plan about a week ago where I have 1 carb/veggie meal (low glycemic) and 2 protein/fat/veggie meals a day. Along with that I have 2-3 fruits a day (alone 1 hour before my meals). I love this plan and feel it is something I can live with. I started this primarily because of the insulin problem. So, was very excited to read your book and see that you pretty much shared the same view. May the Lord continue to bless you and your work as you help people get their lives back!
Thank you for those kind words. Let me re-clarify something. When doing your aerobic exercise...keep your heart rate at or below 110 bpm. When doing strength training....don't be afraid to let it jump up. The problem is that most people are doing their aerobic exercise at too high an intensity level that it becomes counter-productive.
As far as your diet, don't forget to make sure you have enough carbs in your body before your strength training workout, otherwise your body will breakdown protein (lean muscle) in order to produce enough energy to finish your workout. The best times to eat carbs are after your workout...the body is more receptive to them. In other words, you should eat your high or higher carb meals after a workout.
