Dear dr.len, I am 48 years old and have recently been diagnosed with adrenal failure. Over the past 18 months I have been to doctor to doctor complaining about the same symptoms, constipation, inadequte sleep, tiredness and a lump sensation in my throat. It wasn't until a month ago I took all my blood work to a group of Osteopaths and I was diagnosed with adrenal failure or fatigue. I came across your web page looking for ways to lose the unexplained weight I have gained over the past 18 months. My problem all started in August of 2007 when I had my tonsils removed and six weeks later a second throat surgery was needed to remove a massive ball of scar tissue in the right tonsil canal. I never lost any weight during both surgeries; actually what was happening was I started slowly gaining weight. A lump sensation in my throat started right after the tonsillectomy causing pain and discomfort for the last 17 months. An ultra sound on the thryroid was performed, a barium swallow test was performed along with thryorid blood work. All tests came back normal. The physician told me slight acid reflux in the throat was the cause of the lump. 9 years ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia but with the help of a Osteopath I recovered. About 5 years ago I was diagnosed with a sensativity to wheat and gluten and I had always been very strict with my diet. I don't even eat the wheat free items in fear of gaining weight. Carbs such as breads, desserts, sweets have never been a part of my diet. In October of 2008 I had a food allergy, Saliva, & urine test done. I discovered not only am I sensative to wheat and gluten I am sensative to all diary, eggs, sugar cane, bananas, and cranberries. I am giving you the results of my highs and lows from the urine and saliva results. My saliva test showed my DHEA was 123.3, Cortisol at 7;30 am was 4.2, 11:oo am 2.2, 5:30pm 0.9, 11:00pm 1.6 Epinephrine-urine was 10.5, norephinephrine urine was 32.7, Estrone saliva 0.6, progesterone-saliva 0.023, testosterone salvia 4.2, glycine urine 1513.2, GABA urine 320.9, PEA urine. 78.4, Histamine urine 29.5. I have been on a strict diet of fruits, vegetables, lean protiens, nuts, occasionally I will have brown rice, or oatmeal. I read all labels. I am very strict with items I eat, And I have gained 10 pounds in the last 2 months. Right now I am taking pantothentic acid, B-100 complex, b-12, L-Carnitine, vitamin d (5,ooo mg daily) HLC, Omega 3, and the osteopathic doctors who have diagnosed me with Adrenal fatigue are giving me a supplement Arden-All for endrocrine health. I also had a BIOIMPEDANCE ANALYSIS measured and the results showed my cells needed water and they were having trouble storing energy. The only positive change I have noticed in the last month since I have been on the Arden-All is the lump sensation in my throat is gone however my biggest concern is my weight gain. I am even monitoring my blood sugar 3 times during the day to make sure my sugar doesn't drop. I don't know what to do to get this weight off. What can or should I be doing to stop the weight gain and get rid of the additional weight that slowly came on in the last several months? Am I doing all the right things to help my adrenal system? I do exercise with light weights and I started a yoga class for stress reduction.
Is there a specific diet I should follow to rid my body of the additional fat that has been stored around my mid section over the last 18 months?
I apologize for such a lengthy message however I felt I needed to provide you with all the information I have so you can help me. Thank You, Beth
I appreciate your desire to share as much infomration as possible. the one thing I can say is that it sounds like you are doing a lot of good stuff, but you are still not hitting the ball down the fairway...my golf analogy.
Even though you are getting some help, they are obviously still missing something. The results of your tests are important, but test results only tell me where you are NOW, they tell me your current levels...tests don't help me understand or figure out what it is you have done or continue to do that put you there. this is why I would suggest a in-depth consultation, because even these doctors, good or bad, who have all your history haven't been able to help you......I would need the same information to truly help your specific needs, otherwise it would be generalized information....which is all I can give on this message board.
The fact that you had some tests are great, but you don't diagnose based off of test results, which is why I would first suggest that you use our "Online Health Quizzes" to see if your digestive system, elimination system is working properly? See if your blood sugar is staying balance?, etc.....
The name of the game in restoring your health is to restore normal function, and since you mentioned fibromyalgia, and adrenal fatigue there are some common ailments that need to be addressed. I think I spell it out pretty well on our website with our "Healthy Steps IRS Program" but if you want more individualized help let me know, we can set up a consultation, which I would recommend considering your case or health challenge is a bit compliacted, but it can be fixed...I think there is information on the website that discusses how to set a consultation.
Hope we can help you, because obviously the people who have been helping have missed the mark somewhere,
