Good morning... I'm just bumping my question back to the top as I think it got missed, thanks so much. I'm 51-1/2 and finally got to the point where I was starting to feel like myself again after have gone through many perimenopause mental and physical symptoms. After 5 months of not menstruating, I had a very heavy and prolonged bleeding. An ultrasound and biopsy revealed endometrial hyperplasia. I was put on progesterone pills to stop the bleeding. They made me feel awful so I was switched to natural progesterone (prometrium 200 mg) for 13 days of each month. Many of the symptoms that I thought I was finished with have started up again with the prometrium (night sweats, waking up at 4:00 a.m. and not getting back to sleep, being tired all day, feeling blah and unmotivated to do anything). Is there anything more natural I could be trying to control the hyperplasia but not have so many side effects? Thanks so much....

Bria, My first thought with what I am hearing is that there is a definite hormonal imbalance going on. There is probably an underlying adrenal problem that is your primary problem. Remember the adrenal glands take over the responsibility of producing your hormones...estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone when you begin menopause, so depending on how strong or exhausted your adrenal glands are will determine how well you survive or run through the years of menopausal hormone change. The more stress you have been under the more you have depleted, exhausted and fatigued your adrenal glands...which means when it is time for them to pick up the slack at menopause, they can't, which is why so many women struggle with menopausal symptoms. Keep in mind for the adrenals to make the important stress hormones, cortisol, your adrenal glands will steal progesterone to make cortisol. That being said, without a lot more history, it's impossible to say exactly what to do other than to take our Stress Test and see if that is the problem. You should also consider having your adrenal glands tested to see if they are overworked and contributing to the problem. I would definitely start on the Adrenal Fuel to help support your adrenal glands....and this is important because you will never rebalance your hormones, Est/Prog/ TEst....if your adrenals are exhausted....and you will never be able to support your adrenal glands if you can't keep your blood sugar stable. Hope that helps, let me know what else we can do for you, I would definitely read more throughout the blog and articles. Dr. Len
