Well the New Year is upon us and it seems like the number one resolution is to lose weight and get in shape, so I want to go over the 80-20 Rule to Health and Fitness for everyone as we start the New Year off.
When it comes to getting in shape and losing weight let’s not forget that about 80% of your results, the results you get from working out, come from your actual diet and recovery – Not the Workout! So those blood and guts workouts could be wasted if you’re not following the proper diet and recovery protocol.
Only about 20% of your results will come from the actual workout. So don’t KILL Yourself working out - don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying Don’t workout Hard!
I’m saying most of the results you hope to find as you look in the mirror are going to come from your diet and your ability to rest and sleep. Therefore, place more of your energy in eating the right foods and getting enough rest.
FYI…you trigger the greatest surge of testosterone and growth hormones when you workout (the more intense the workout the more testosterone you produce) and when you sleep.
I hear all too often people talking about how killer their workouts are – yet complain about the lack of results they are seeing.
You have to remember, most people might workout an hour, if that? But you are in that catabolic state, tearing your muscles down for ONLY one hour….what are you doing for the other 23 hours of the day?
It’s the other 23 hours of the day when You Should Be in that ‘anabolic,’ rebuilding phase you need to be concerned about. If you’re not feeding your body the right nutrients (we’ll talking about what to eat at another time) to help rebuild your body and giving your body enough rest to repair itself, how do you expect to reap the results you are looking for? I did say, "you should be, right? This is why sticking points and plateau's are all too common.
The point I’m making is that it is not about working out harder or longer – it’s about dieting and training smarter. If you are going to train hard and put all that effort into a workout, don’t make the mistake and overlook your diet and recovery.
It’s the simple 80-20 rule to health and fitness and another reason why short, high intensity, burst training with something like the Work Horse Fitness Trainer can be so helpful. Next time, I’ll talk about how the 80-20 Rule applies to getting healthy, what supplements you should be taking and how to overcome most aches and pains.
FYI…if you are struggling with some chronic health issues that aren’t getting better or taking more supplements than you think you should be taking – you’ll find the next few posts very informative. Don’t forget, a Second Opinion on your health and fitness program can pay dividends on your time, energy and effort.
