Stress is basically anything that causes your Adrenal Glands to pump out more cortisol and adrenaline!
Worry, Fear and Anger cause an increase in your stress hormones, which most people understand and are familiar with….BUT
- The Wrong Diet
- Digestive Problems
- Always on the Go
- And Exercise……Also Trigger an Increase of Your Stress Hormones, Cortisol and Adrenaline.
The body is designed to handle short bouts of stress…..see the tiger…run from the tiger!
The body doesn't handle very well prolonged bouts of stress. You can’t run from the proverbial saber-tooth tiger all day, everyday! Yet some people live theif life that way, from the time they wakeup till the time they go to bed.
Your body (adrenal glands) can only pump out so much cortisol and adrenaline, Before they become depleted! This is why it's called Adrenal Fatigue!
You Can’t and Don’t want to have Cortisol and Adrenaline continually Pumping Through Your Body All Day!
If you do it throws off all the other hormones (Hormone Imbalance) and leads to fatigue, weight gain, cravings, mood swings, indigestion, etc!
- Cortisol and Adrenaline are primary, survival hormones, you can’t live without them! They signal the body is in the Fight or Flight Mode (sympathetic mode)….thus there is No time for the Resting Digesting Mode (parasympathetic mode).
The Usual Suspects of Stress are more than Worry, Fear, Anxiety…..But here is where mainstream medicine drops the ball, sort of speak, what if your stress hormones are already elevated, and You eat the Wrong Diet?
This triggers an increase of cortisol and adrenaline, in order to help stabilize your blood sugar!
- You struggle with an irritated, inflamed digestive system? This cause more need for cortisol to remove the Inflammation!
- If you are always on the go? Constantly racing through the day keeps your heart pumping more than it should!
I haven’t even mentioned Exercise…and how exercise causes a spike in cortisol and adrenaline. But what if your body (adrenals) is already exhausted? There are certain types of exercises and intensity levels that may Not Be Right For You.
Let's Not Forget....that the quicker you get your stress hormones back to normal after a good workout - the quicker your activate the Anabolic, Rebuild, Repair Phase.
Most People assume stress is mental, emotional….but there are physical stresses, chemical stresses and of course Dietary stresses. This is why it is invaluable to have your cortisol levels checked and make sure your adrenal glands are keeping up with the demand of stress you are laying out. A simpler starting point would be to use the online Stress Test and see what that tells you.
